Rector inaugurates Cempoalxóchitl Gastronomy Festival 2023

Morelia, Michoacán, October 31, 2023.- The rector of the Technological University of Morelia (UTM), Graciela C. Andrade García Peláez, announced that she will begin the procedures for the creation of the master's degree in Traditional Cuisine, and diploma courses related to this matter.

When inaugurating the Cempoalxóchitl Gastronomy Festival 2023, he highlighted that the objective is the conservation and promotion of the cultural traditions of Michoacán, especially within the framework of the Night of the Dead festivities. “Traditional cuisine plays an essential role in these celebrations, and the Technological University of Morelia is actively dedicated to contributing to its promotion and preservation,” he said.

The festival will offer students a wide range of activities that include workshops, presentations, traditional dish competitions, catrina competitions, staging, literary calaveritas, the making of bread of the dead and assembly of altars.

The rector congratulated the Gastronomy major for its enthusiasm and commitment in organizing this event, and mentioned that it is the first time in his two years as rector that he has observed such an outstanding level of participation and organization. Likewise, he extended his recognition to the teaching staff for their excellent coordination and organization of activities and workshops.

The Technological University of Morelia assumes the mission of promoting the richness of our culinary traditions and reaffirms its firm commitment to strengthening training in gastronomy and the preservation of our valuable cultural heritage in traditional cuisine.
