Morelia, Michoacán, May 6, 2024.- The Technological University of Morelia (UTM) was the scene of the official announcement of the call for the State Prize for Merit for STEM Women (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in Michoacán. The Institute of Higher and Higher Secondary Education (IEMSySEM) made this important call public.

The rector of the Technological University of Morelia, Graciela C. Andrade García Peláez, highlighted that the State Award for Merit for STEM Women aims to recognize and promote the performance of young women during their student, academic or research career.

The case of Julieta Ochoa Arévalo, a student studying Renewable Energy, who is the only female student in her semester, was highlighted. In addition, it was mentioned that, in Mexico, for every 10 professionals, 3 women are in STEM areas.

The call was made by Mariana Sosa Olmeda, director of the Institute of Higher and Higher Secondary Education (IEMSySEM), and was attended by rectors of Technological and Polytechnic Universities of the Technological Subsystem of Michoacán.

The period for receiving applications for the State Medal of Merit for STEM Women will be open until May 20, and the winners will be announced on June 24.
