Morelia, Michoacán, November 1, 2022.- In order to keep traditions alive and promote healthy coexistence among young people, 1,038 students from the Technological University of Morelia (UTM) participated in the Traditional Altars and Rugs Contest on the occasion of the Day of the Dead.

The team made up of the “3 A” group of Biotechnology won first place in the Altar Contest; while second place went to the first-year “B” team and third place to fourth-semester students, group “D”, both from the Gastronomy career.

The winners of the Traditional Rug Contest were: first place for group “1A”; second place for the students of the “10 B” group and third place for the students of the “10 A” group, all from Biotechnology.

Horacio Anaya Villegas, director of Higher Education and the rector of the UTM, Graciela Andrade García Peláez, participated in the tour carried out by the qualifying jury to evaluate each mat and altar.

It should be noted that a total of 47 teams participated and 22 altars were made, all dedicated to figures from public life or their families, respecting all the traditional elements that make up the altars; while the designs of the 25 mats made withstood the rain that surprised the UTM community.
